Getting ready to head down maggie valley way. Ashville is first on my list to visit friends. Then off on some trails, like this one.

NC 209 is a good ride - I like to use it to get to more good rides - take a look at this 148 mile route that includes: Rabbit Skin Rd, NC 209, NC 208, Revere Rd, Big Laurel Rd, Walnut Creek Rd, Baileys Branch Rd, Bear Creek Rd, Newfound Rd, Hookers Gap Rd, NC 151, Blue Ridge Parkway, NC 215, Sunburst Falls & Jukebox Junction Restaurant & Soda Shoppe. The route has hundreds of curves and several switchbacks - the last 4 miles of NC 151 is a steep uphill climb with tight curves to the BRP.

Great time making our way in to Maggie Valley today. Fontana Dam, Cherohala, tail of the dragon, foothills parkway, 441 and blue ridge parkway. Maggie Valley is one of the best places to ride! —

From FB:

Smoky Mountain week. Day one - Rode in to Clyde, NC. 96 degrees and sunny until the last 10 miles, then got hammered by a strong storm. Heavy rain, wind, and hail. Made it safe to the house.
DAY 2 - Tunnels Run and Blue Ridge Pkwy.
DAY 3 - Cherokee Run, 19 & 276, Cherokee HD, and Wheels Through Time Museum.
DAY 4 - Great Smoky Mountain Loop on 441 ( The Snake), took a crazy detour from 321 out of Gatlinburg on TN 32 to Groundhog Rd, Levin Rd to Cripple Creek Rd to Black Bear Way (crazy!) to Big Creek Rd (crazier), to Blue Mill Rd. Then part of the Shiners Run (107 & 25 Dixie Hwy) to Asheville, NC.
DAY 5 - (today) riding Cherohala Skyway and south of the park.
It has been very hot and of course daily pop up showers in the mountains.
We have ridden most of the big ones on previous trips. The Tail, Rattler, Foothills Pkwy, Copperhead, Cherohala, etc. wanted to ride some different roads this time. Thursday we are meeting one of my best friends from my Army days I haven’t seen in 30 years! He lives 2 hours from where we are staying.

WHITEWATER FALLS
Road type: scenic, twisty
Distance: 200 miles
Travel time: 6 -7 hours
Whitewater Falls is the highest waterfall east of the Rockies @ 411 feet! It drops again another 400 ft into South Carolina - there are two observation areas - the upper one is an easy walk on a paved path - the lower one is located at the bottom of 154 wooden steps. **Fee: $3 for vehicles with seven passengers or less; $1 per person for more than seven people traveling together in a vehicle.
This route is a mix of waterfalls and twisty roads that includes a section of Moonshiner 28 and US276 part of the Copperhead Loop. All the stops on this route have paved parking areas with paved walkways to the viewing areas - the walk behind Dry Falls can get wet so watch your step. Not included below is Toxaway Falls which is difficult to see from the roadway but is visible from the patio of the Falls Cafe & Grille which is also a good place for lunch.

Good idea for a ride:

Today’s ride: Rte 19/74 W to 28 W to 143 to the Cherohala Skyway. Had lunch at Iron Works Grill (great Philly). Then rode Cherohala Skyway the other way and back to Max Patch Rd.

From FB rider:

The ride on the Cherohala Skyway was awesome! had some temp changes in the 50 mile stretch of Hwy ranged from upper 80’s to 67 degrees all within the 50 minutes! Also stopped at Bald River Falls in Tennessee!
